Qatar Museums offers Teachers Training sessions ahead of two landmark Qatar Germany Year of Culture exhibition openings

In preparation for the launch of two landmark exhibitions opening in October to mark the Qatar Germany Year of Culture, Qatar Museums (QM) is organising a series of Teachers Training workshops to ensure the impressive shows are enjoyed by guests of all ages.
Driven by German Design, developed in close partnership with the Volkswagen Group, will open at Al Riwaq Gallery on October 3 and trace the evolution of German design over more than six decades. Deutsche Bank, which has built up one of the world’s most important corporate collections of contemporary art, will simultaneously present German Encounters – Contemporary Masterworks from the Deutsche Bank Collection at the Fire Station’s Garage Gallery. Both exhibitions are supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.
The QM Department of Education will be offering teachers training from Sunday, September 24th. Each day-long training session will equip teachers to integrate content from the exhibitions into their teaching and class planning, including curriculum-alignment with the topics of the exhibitions. Teachers will also be prepared to conduct self-guided tours for students following the training.
All programs and learning materials have been developed in collaboration with the Deutsche Bank, Volkswagen, the German Embassy and the Goethe-Institut.

Fire Station-Garage Gallery: October 3, 2017 – January 20, 2018
This training will be a general resource and introduction to German contemporary art from the 1960s to the present day, focusing on certain aspects of the exhibition and introducing artists’ biographies. A variety of post-visit learning materials, student and teacher guides, as well as suggestions for creative learning activities will be discussed and shared during the session.
The sessions for the German Encounters exhibition will take place from 9am-1pm at the Fire Station Auditorium on October 1, 2 and 4 for English speakers and October 3 and 5 for Arabic speakers.

Qatar Museums’ Al Riwaq Gallery: October 3, 2017 – January 14, 2018
The exhibition traces the development of German design over more than six decades, from the 1950s to the present day and provides a glimpse into the future. It displays many amazing, imaginative and unique designs and poses questions about the role of design in our environment. The impressive exhibition space provides numerous learning opportunities for a variety of school subjects and curricula standards.
The sessions for the Driven by German Design exhibition will take place in Doha Fire Station on September 24, 25, 27 and 28 and October 1, 2, 4 and 5 for English speakers, and at the MIA Auditorium on September 26 and October 3 for Arabic speakers.
The sessions for the German Encounters will take place from 9am-1pm at the Fire Station Auditorium on October 1, 2 and 4 for English speakers and October 3 and 5 for Arabic speakers.
Teachers Guides, tips on how to conduct guided tours of the exhibitions and other learning materials will be provided. Upon the opening of the exhibitions, they will also be made available for be download from QM website.
