A vegan lifestyle is often filled with many challenges, the biggest one being the lack of good food options outside. While people often tend to consider turning to veganism for their personal reasons, that we discussed in the previous article, the question of how long they can stay vegan always remains. We try to answer this question, more specifically by giving you a personal guide to turning/staying vegan in Qatar.

The Choice

One of the biggest challenges of turning to veganism in Qatar is having the resilience to give up the delicious meat delicacies that have you salivating. Once that choice is made, the journey to veganism is much easier, thanks to the growing eatery options and non-dairy alternatives that are available everywhere.

The Switch

So when you cannot eat any meat or dairy product, what do we eat? The answer is simple, fresh organic veggies, non-dairy milk like almond milk, soy milk, etc. and a wide range on vegan cheese & butter options that is easily available at every supermarket. As for finding the best meat substitute, supermarkets have various vegan-friendly fake meat options like the Vegan Quorn products.

What About My Coffee/Tea?

We all love our morning brew of coffee or tea. Some of us (like myself), even love the continuous supply of cuppas that we simply cannot live without. However, veganism does not mean giving up on coffee, tea or even cereal and other milk-related food. With non-dairy milk alternatives like soy milk and almond milk, that could keep us fueled. The best part about this switch has to be that almond milk(my personal favorite) actually taste better than normal dairy and also serves as a great source of nutrients and protein.

Eating out

This is the biggest issue that most vegans worldwide face, since most places do not have many options. However, we do have vegan cafes, which serve delicious delicacies that your friends your try! Qatar has its own share of vegan cafes like Evergreen Organics offer a wide variety of food that will leave you full. However, if you end up at a non-vegan restaurant, simply order a salad in non-dairy dressing without cheese. But if you, like myself, have a long-standing love for potatoes, you can always choose to eat fries at almost all places, because most fries are 100% vegan!

We hope that this article helps you in trying veganism in Qatar. It is going to be difficult, but you may actually love it!
