Doha Qatar Motor and Motorcycling Federation’s (QMMF) top four riders will take on Moto 2 Championship winners Leopard Racing in the fourth edition of the Qatar Online Racing Championship (QORC).

The seven-race series will begin from today at 8pm, with the final race scheduled for June 29. QMMF has already conducted championships for circuit racing cars, bikes and rally cars and the series has grown in popularity with the on track taking a temporary halt due to the pandemic.

QMMF will be represented by Saeed al-Sulaiti, Jassim al-Thani, Soud al-Thani and Hamad alSahouti, while Marcos Ramirez, Xavi Artigas, Dennis Foggia and either Lorenzo Dalla Porta or Andrea Locatelli make up the Leopard racing team. Amro al-Hamad, Executive Director of QMMF said the winners will be decided on the collective tally of points the teams muster over the course of the week.

“The riders will be battling for team points. There are eight riders in total. Each rider collects points but their effort goes to the team tally. It’s not important where you finish – whether you finish first and the rest of your team gets late positions, it won’t help,” al-Hamad said.

“I met Leopard Racing Team officials during the FIM Meetings in Monaco. I was discovering opportunities of collaborations with them as they are one of the leading teams in Moto2 racing. It so happened that they found out about the second edition of QORC. We came in touch again and the idea of putting four of our top riders against four of theirs was born. We have been planning for this new series for the last couple of weeks,” he added.
