The cold nights and chilly winds in Doha finally means the end of summer hibernation. Families and friends alike are seen strolling out and about in Doha, taking in this beautiful weather as they explore all this city has to offer. However, recreational activities aren’t the only things this weather can bring about. Instead of slaving away on a treadmill in some enclosed gym, take a jog around one of the many running tracks in the area and give your exercise routine a change of scenery. Doha has multiple running tracks that each offer something unique and will change the way you run. Here are a list of running tracks or parks in Doha that offer more than just a flat surface for your feet.
The Corniche
You don’t always need a track to run, sometimes all you need is a view. Take in the lights and buildings of the skyline as you run alongside the Persian Gulf, at Doha’s most popular coast. We recommend coming here at sunrise, to beat the blazing traffic and to witness the magnificent sunrise you see coming up behind the Museum of Islamic Art. The concrete path may not be for everyone but the view definitely makes up for it.
MIA Park
If the corniche gets too crowded and you would like to get away from the noise and pollution of incoming traffic, MIA park is the perfect solution. The crescent shaped path provides the perfect balance of land and sea and gives you the option of running on grass, a track or their main ‘mini’ corniche. If you tire of running, the park also offers other recreational activities such as bike rentals and paddle boats.
Al Bidda Park
This old favorite was recently re-opened to the public after undergoing major renovation. It provides different running tracks with labeled distances and is a personal favorite; providing both flat and hilly tracks. It is also the perfect place for a picnic or post-food run.
Aspire Park
This park offers both a running and concrete path from which you can choose. This central park in Al Waab encompasses a large pond full of fish and ducks and a bridge with over spraying water pipes if you’re feeling adventurous. Breathe in the open air and sprint!
Losail Circuit
Losail Circuit is not only for professional cyclists or cars. Go to Losail Circuit Facebook or @losailcircuit to check out their timings and schedules for days open to the public. Make a friend and join a weekly running group.
Oxygen Park
Located in Qatar Foundation, this park has it all. It provides professional running tracks with the option of choosing from concrete, rubber as well as sand pathways and offers a covered running area with outdoor air conditioning as well. Discover something new from the hilltops to the secret dancing water fountains each time you visit.
Note: Always remember to take a water bottle to stay hydrated and apply ample sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays. Be sensitive to the culture with your running attire and be aware of the hot and humid weather.
