The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday announced the commencement of the construction works of the new park at Al Daayen where the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has allocated land.

Once completed, the park will be a tourist and leisure destination serving residents and people from the surrounding areas. The park is constructed as part of the plans by the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar to create a sustainable environment by implementing green projects. The park is scheduled to be opened in the third quarter of 2020, a press statement by Ashghal said.

Rashed Meshlesh al-Khayyareen, director of Al Daayen Municipality, said that the park which covers 39,000sq m will serve residents of Al Daayen and the surrounding areas. Engineer Maryam al-Kuwari, Project Design Manager at the Supervisory Committee of the Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar at Ashghal, said that the park will become an area of leisure for families at Al Daayen and Semaisema areas.

“The project includes the construction of green open spaces with seating areas and kids playing area. A fitness area will be set up along with pedestrian and cycle paths in order to encourage people to practice sports and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Al-Kuwari added that the project also features service kiosks that include restaurants, cafes, toilets and security rooms. Visitors can make use of the parking space provided by Al Daayen Municipality.

“There are 50 parking lots and they will be increased in the future. There will be decorative lighting poles with special dimmed lighting to secure privacy,” she said. Al Daayen Park project is one of the projects
of the Supervisory Committee of the Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar and the Committee, last month, announced the commencement of Ras Bu Abboud Beach Development Project.
In January, it announced the completion of 30% of Doha Corniche development Works as part of Central Doha Development Project.

The committee’s projects are aimed at creating a sustainable environment through implementing several tasks that include building central public parks, providing pedestrians and cycles paths, providing street furniture and some decorative lighting, developing Doha Corniche and some beaches in addition to developing central Doha area by reviving some internal public roads, vital places, residential areas and plazas.

The committee also looks to contribute to creating a social environment with a distinct identity through the participation of community members in creating artwork and planting works in co-ordination with various ministries and government agencies in the country.
