Ah, where would we be without the joining of breakfast and lunch? There really is no in between with brunch; you either love it or you hate it. Well, we choose to love it. As the meal we look forward to every week, we often forget (or convince ourselves to forget) all the calories piling on.

The cross between sweet and savory, and between breakfast and lunch is hardly a healthy cross. Some of the most popular brunch dishes are also some of the most calorific…Luckily, there are still some fun and delicious brunch alternatives that still give you something to look forward to- minus also looking forward to the kilos piling on…

Here are some of our favourite healthy brunch options:

1. Bowl of Joy

Bowls are very much in trend right now. No, we aren’t talking about the tableware. From smoothie bowls to porridge bowls to acai bowls; bowls are all the rage. This super healthy superfood isn’t just delicious and sweet, it’s packed full of stuff that’s good for you! Depending on the bowl you choose, it can be garnished with nuts and goji berries or hemp seeds or pumpkin seeds. All of which are going to fill you up and leave you satisfied and guilt-free!

2. Avo-Egg

Avocado and eggs are a beloved combo that no brunch menu would be complete without. Whether you’re having them both on toast or mashing the two up together; it’s a favourite. Well, we have a healthy alternative that’s still equally as flavorful. You might be lucky enough to find this at your fave brunch spot, but if not then this is super easy to make. You just slice an avocado in half, take the pit out and scoop out about 2 tablespoons of flesh from the inside. Then place the avocado in a small baking dish and crack the egg into the hole you’ve created. Just bake it in the oven for 15-20 minutes and enjoy!

3. Breakfast Tacos

Certainly not the healthiest option on the list, but breakfast tacos beat a breakfast burrito. Just having some eggs with a tortilla is definitely a healthy brunch day as far as we’re concerned. Try to avoid bacon to help cut the calories down!

4. Omelets

We all know an egg-white omelet with spinach is guaranteed to be the healthiest brunch option out there. But there’s no reason why you can’t up the ante? Add in some more veggies. Mushrooms, onions and peppers would really amplify a plain white omelet! Throw in some smoked salmon on the side and you have a delicious brunch with a fraction of the calories.
