Cricket as a sport has come a long way since its inception. From the time when every over had eight balls to a time where the complete match has just twenty overs, the journey of cricket and its fans has been truly exhilarating. However, there is something about test cricket that continues to have a charm, even in this fast-moving world. True cricket enthusiasts cannot stop marvelling at the zeal, energy and talent that is required in a test series.
Personally, the first test match between India and England is what brought back all the emotions associated with test match. While the world loves the fast pace and quick outcomes of the T20 cricket and even ODI, test cricket is the form that truly reiterates what the sport stands for. The patience, shown by the players on the field, or the audience who leisurely enjoy this form of the match is just one of the reasons that makes test cricket a fulfilling experience.
Consistency
T20 and ODI allows cricketers to put in all their energy on one particular day, and gives them time to heal and recoup for the next match. The beauty of test cricket begins in the efforts that every player has to put in to be consistent. Almost every player has to be on the field consistently and give their best. Whether Virat Kohli, who needs to be on form while batting, fielding as well as strategizing, or R Ashwin who needs to be on point while fielding (and continue to take wickets). Consistency is the key in cricket and a must in test matches.
Second Chances
When you are watching a T20 or ODI, there are days when our favorite players fail to perform. This is often followed by instant disappointment for the player, the team and their fans as well. However, test matches are the best example that prove that there are second chances in life. A player who has not performed in the first session can always make a comeback in the second one. Test cricket offerst every player a second chance.
It’s About The Team
In addition to giving players a second chance, test cricket also gives the entire team an opportunity to savage things and turn them around. While the team can be saved by one player, one wicket, one century in T20 and ODI, Test cricket counts on the entire team to perform. If the team does not come together, and give their best, they fall short of the victory, or maybe manage a draw. But when they do, the stats, performance and results are all worth celebrating.
These are just a few things that make Test a beautiful and enjoyable form of cricket that people need to focus on. But the best way to understand this magic is by watching a match, to understand what it really means. And what better time to try this, than with the England vs India Test Match!
