Dr. Waed explains that one of the most important aspects of skincare in Qatar is sun protection at an early stage to prevent skin disorders such as pigmentation and freckles and even more serious complications such as skin cancer.

“Now that we are in the summer season with the highest temperatures, it is important for people, especially young children to avoid the harmful effects of the sun. We also encourage our patients to regularly check their skin for any changes in color or wrinkles or skin rash.”

Dr. Waed adds that avoiding the sun between 10 am to 4 pm is important while also wearing long sleeves, using umbrellas and sunglasses to protect the skin from the sun. It is also important for people to apply sunscreen daily. “The ideal sunscreen is one that leaves a thick white layer on the face which is difficult for the sun to penetrate and must be water resistant and suitable for specific skin types. Dry skin needs rich thick formulas such as cream, while oily skin needs a lighter concentration such as lotion or milk. The sunscreen should be used every two hours when the sun is at its peak, during 10 am and 3 pm.”

Rayhan Medical Complex

Rayhan Medical Complex’s Laser and Dermatology department offers a range of services to deal with the effects of the sun including discolouration, freckles, skin burns caused by UV rays which are a result of direct and excessive exposure of the sun on the skin leading to redness, irritation and feeling of pain. Using the latest in skincare technology, the medical complex employs techniques such as Botox and Fillers and Meso and Plasma Replacement Process which uses the body’s own plasma to help restore skin to a youthful glow.

To combat ageing caused by the sun, Rayhan Medical Complex also offers the world-renowned SPECTRA™ laser Machine ” The Official Hollywood Laser Peel Device” – a quick, no down time laser treatment that rejuvenates the skin, fights signs of aging and damaged skin. Laser energy lightly removes carbon particles within lotion which also heats the dermis of the skin and lightly ablates the top layer of dead skin. The laser energy breaks up pigment that is then carried away by your body, and heats the skin causing the skin to contract while at the same time stimulating the building of collagen.

Rayhan Medical Complex

Rayhan Medical Complex is also equipped to detect and recommend treatments for skin cancer in all forms, whether Basal cell skin cancer, Squamous Cell Carcinoma or Melanoma and this latter type is the most dangerous and leads to the highest percentage of deaths.

Finally, the medical institute is fully equipped to treat children who may be facing the effects of summer through heat stroke, a severe condition characterized by the dysfunction of the nervous system due to exposure to high temperature and may result in death if not handled quickly and properly.
