For someone who hardly wears any makeup, the number of beauty bloggers that I follow on YouTube are far too much. However, I may be one of the few people who has never watched a Jeffree Star video. The first time I actually watched anything by him was a recent video where one of my favorite YouTubers, Shane Dawson gave him a “makeover.” However, thanks to YouTube’s algorithm, I was soon engrossed in the life of Jeffree Star. And When Shane Dawson finally released his latest series, The Secret Life of Jeffree Star, I was already excited.

Releasing a series on the scale and length of this can be immensely challenging, especially when you have a small team, tight deadlines and very small budget. However, Shane Dawson has clearly mastered this art and is already upping his game on YouTube. It is not every day that a YouTuber gets three back to back promotions, like he just did. This, combined with the fact that the video series garnered millions of views in the first few hours itself, speaks for the magnitude of its success.

 
But we are not here to talk about the numbers, but to see the impact that the story of Jeffree Star had. For someone whose only make-up collection consists of gifts from friends and family, I had a fair idea of just how profitable and large the makeup industry is. However, this story of Jeffree Star’s success from a failed pop star to a business genius, has to be one of the most inspiring story that reiterates that hard-work and smart investments can bring you a long way.

Not everyone can casually talk about a walk-in closet filled with Birkin bags, while donning a casual Gucci tracksuit. But that is Jeffree Star. His love for luxury brands and luxury goods have been evident in all his videos. But Shane Dawson has managed to scrap a layer deeper into the Jeffree Star who eat frosting from the can, drinks Seven Eleven Slurpees and has a sweet tooth that is hard to satisfy. This video series is mostly fun, happy and filled with exciting events, like actually visiting makeup labs and distribution warehouses, and driving around in expensive cars.

However, in the grand finale of the series, Shane Dawson has won our hearts and opened our eyes towards the pain behind the drama and the blunt words of Jeffree Star. Without spilling all the tea, I can only say that the last episode of the series is bound to give the chills to anyone with a good heart. As someone who was indifferent to Jeffree Star, this Shane Dawson series has made me care for this man, with a no-filter attitude, and an awe-inspiring story. When I began this series, I did not know much about Jeffree, his image, his drama or even his real name, but having binge-watched the series, I can only say that I am now a fan.
