In the world of social media and drastic transformations, working out just to feel good is something that not many people do. We all want to hit the gym to get that bikini body or lose the extra fat. But what we need to remember is that the reason or your motivation to work out is extremely important for you to actually see results. As someone who has spent a fair share of my money on gym memberships, dance classes, yoga lessons, and other forms of exercises, in the hopes of losing weight, this is one lesson that I learned the hard way.
Your body needs to be accustomed to physical activities for you to actually stick to any workout routine. This might as well be the main reason that most people have spent thousands on gym memberships that they never actually attended. However, if you are a beginner who is looking to opt a healthy lifestyle, a membership is definitely not the first thing that you need. So here are a few workout tips that will hopefully help you to lead a healthier life.
The Myth of Gym
If you pay money and make that commitment to working out, you will eventually be regular at the gym. This is the myth that pushes most people into taking memberships. While this may work as a motivator for some people, most people give up jogging because it is painful. While running on a treadmill or lifting a few weights don’t seem like big tasks, for someone who has had no physical exercise in a long time, it can cause excruciating pain. So the best way to start working out is by taking baby steps, quite literally. Start by doing easy exercises at home for 30 mins, take the stairs instead of the elevator, go cycling, or the best home-exercise, try skipping every single day for at least 15-minutes. While these may seem like small things, they will make your muscles accustomed to the workout, and taking a gym membership after that, will definitely help you get better results.
Drastic Changes
When we really want to bring about changes in our body, we often tend to take too many drastic steps, all at once, and then we fail. You take the gym membership and you opt for a weight-loss friendly diet at the same time. Then, one week later, you are back to your unhealthy habits. The reason behind this is simple. Working out while you follow a weight loss diet is not the best option. A weight-loss diet is mostly high-protein, and therefore not the best source of energy. When you bring this change in your diet, your body struggles to find the energy to do simple daily tasks, therefore it becomes all the more difficult to find the energy to workout. The simple solution would be to either go for an extreme no-carbs diet, with simple home workouts or making healthier switches in your meals without any drastic diets.
Sticking to a Workout Routine
It takes 21 days to form a habit, any habit. This simple fact can help you to make a swift transition into a healthier lifestyle. Draw yourself a calendar and cut out the 21 days that you need to take extra efforts into working out. This old-school method and the gratification that comes with it will work as an extra motivator for you to make this change.
And lastly, the most important part has to be making the changes for the right reasons. So take some time, think about the reason you want to have a healthier lifestyle and how it will make your current life better, and then get started!
