Khalid Salman – the star of Qatar’s run to the final of the 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship – will be the special guest on Generation Amazing’s latest Instagram Live show today at 4pm.
It’s the 11th week the Qatar 2022 legacy program has run online programs in order to continue engaging with its audience during the ongoing global pandemic. More than 110,000 people have tuned in for the sessions so far.
On today’s show, Salman will share exclusive insights into his career, which included representing Qatar at the 1984 Olympics and scoring the winning goal for Al Sadd in the 1988-89 Asian Club Championship. Generation Amazing’s Marketing & Communications Director, Moza al-Mohannadi, said: “We are very proud to host Qatari football legend Khalid Salman on this week’s show. We all remember his incredible contribution to the Qatar team during the World Youth Championship in 1981. His hat-trick against Brazil in the quarter-finals will never be forgotten. We look forward to hearing about this experience and many others which I’m sure will inspire our audience.”
In addition to Salman’s appearance, a live webinar will take place tomorrow at 3:30pm which focuses on supporting youth through Covid-19. Titled ‘Youth challenges in a time of Covid-19: The transformative role of sports and other engines of learning and community building’, the webinar will be delivered by Generation Amazing, in collaboration with partners such as the Josoor Institute – another Qatar 2022 legacy program – and the University Campus of Football Business (UCFB).
Generation Amazing Programs Director, Nasser al-Khori, will take part in the webinar, along with Dr Cynthia Hebsgaard, Josoor Institute’s Director of Education, Michael Cacich, Senior Education Specialist at Education Above All, UCFB lecturer, Dr Leo Watkins, and Amani al-Qadi, the founder of Aurora for Learning and Development. Members of the public are welcome to tune in to the Microsoft Teams webinar.
Al-Khori said: “We are thrilled to kick off our webinar series, which we believe will bring to light the ways in which we can inspire and support youth through the transformative power of football, in the run-up to Qatar 2022 and beyond. “It’s a pleasure to deliver this series in collaboration with our strategic partners in sport and development. This is a crucial opportunity to discuss the impact that sport can have for youth and people of all ages, and how we can take an innovative and collective approach in the sector, to tackle some of the biggest development issues we face in unprecedented times, such as those which we are living in today during this global pandemic.”
Generation Amazing is a social and legacy program which uses the power of football to boost underprivileged communities around the world. It has reached more than 500,000 people since being launched almost ten years ago.
