ST PETERSBURG: The Secretary-General of Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), Hassan Al Thawadi in his speech at the International Economic Forum (IEF) in St Petersburg highlighted the importance of FIFA World Cups in Russia and Qatar, saying the mega tournaments in the two football loving nations will highly benefit the game.

Al Thawadi spoke in one of the sessions (fields available to the modern infrastructure of technology) of the IEF, which was attended by several dignitaries from around the world including the Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, Pavel Kolobkov, who is also the Head of the Local Organising Committee of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
In all, over 10,000 representatives from 120 countries including French President Emmanuel Macron and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the IEF.
Al Thawadi said the modern technology being used by Russia and Qatar for construction of stadiums and in other aspects in an unprecedented manner will take football to a new level. He predicted a brilliant future for the world’s most popular game with the World Cups being hosted in Russia and Qatar.
With these two countries, hosting the World Cups for first time, the SC secretary-general pointed out the importance of introducing new cultures and civilisations, and in showing the great passion being enjoyed by the sport in two regions. He promised Qatar would continue to prolong association with the stakeholders for betterment of football.
Apart from attending the IEF, Al Thawadi held several media meetings with the various media outlets that covered the forum, according to a report posted on alkass.net. Al Thawadi remained the focus of all participants due to Qatar’s strong progress in all areas particularly projects relating to Qatar 2022.
While Russia is set to host the World Cup from next month, Qatar is well ahead of the construction work on eight of the proposed host venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. With the iconic Khalifa International Stadium ready, all the other venues are also expected to be completed well before the schedule.
One of the unique elements of the Qatar 2022 will be that fans descending here will be able to watch two matches a day due to the proximity of stadiums and an excellent local public transport system.
