Katara Cultural Village

To ensure public health and safety amid the global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) which already infected 24 people in Qatar as of yesterday, a number of events slated to be held in the coming days have been either cancelled or postponed.

The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), one of the most visited spots in the country which plays host to big local and international events, has announced via its social media platforms it was calling off some of its public events.

The Ukrainian cultural shows, which were scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday at Katara Amphitheatre as part of the months-long Cultural Diversity Festival, had been postponed until further notice and screenings of “Beyond the Stars” which were planned to take place from Tuesday to Thursday at Al Thuraya Planetarium had been cancelled.

Earlier, Katara also announced the cancellation of the screening of Mostefa Ben Boulaid, a film about the Algerian revolutionary leader, supposed to be shown at Katara Drama Theatre on Monday.

It also announced that starting yesterday, “all Katara events will be broadcast live on the foundation’s social media platforms for the safety of the public.”

Rather than personally cheer for their favourite teams, volleyball enthusiasts who have been following the excitement at the ongoing Katara Beach Volleyball Cup 2020, which began on Monday and runs until Friday, can watch livestream of the games as well as get updated via social media accounts of Katara.

The Qatari beach volleyball team is participating in the this year’s edition of Katara Beach Volleyball Cup organized by the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) in cooperation with Katara in which some of the best volleyball teams from 28 countries are taking part.

Further, Katara also announced it had stopped serving shisha in its restaurants and cafes for the health and safety of customers in line with the directive that the Ministry of Public Health issued yesterday.

Meanwhile, the newly founded Katara Farmers’ Forum during their recent regular meeting, discussed the need to unify the efforts of Qatari farms to showcase and sell their products at competitive prices, ensuring food security among the consumers especially under the current situation amid coronavirus fears.

The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra announced yesterday in its official website the cancellation of its shows this month including “East Meets West” chamber music concert at the Museum of Islamic Art, “Tchaikovsky Symphony No.5” at Katara Opera House, “Oriental Jazz Music by Maias Alyamani” at Qatar National Library, and “Arabian Night” at Qatar National Convention Center.
