YouTube has been an essential part of our lives for more than a decade. However, a platform that we once enjoyed watching cat videos on, has grown into something much bigger, but i am not sure if it is better. Growing up, YouTube was mainly a place we went for entertaining short videos and tutorials of how to get things done. However, having watched the latest YouTube series by Shane Dawson, The Secret Life of Jeffree Star, my viewpoint on YouTube has been transformed.

Anybody who loves drama knows about the recent issues that YouTubers have been facing on the video platform. YouTube is no longer the easy platform where you can post anything you want and get your five minutes of fame. Whether it is because of the efforts of YouTubers themselves to create quality content, or the blunders made by vloggers like Jake and Logan Paul, the platform has transformed and is now offering a wide array of content in the long as well as short formats.

While the pet videos and funny fails and pranks are still available in plenty, it is not all that makes the platform what it is. The long-running trend of clickbaits are finally reducing and are now replaced by sensible content that requires a lot of efforts and consistency. In a time when we are bombarded with content on platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc, YouTuber’s efforts of creating longer format video series that are both intriguing and exciting.

The emotional flair of the content on the platform has clearly been on the rise and this welcome change clearly shows that YouTube is not just a hobby, but a business. Even as YouTube itself invests in fictional content with their YouTube Originals, the series created by some OG YouTubers like Shane Dawson, Gabbie Hanna, etc. are opening new doors in the world of entertainment. These talented influencers are not just catering a need that nobody realized existed, but also making more and more people interested in these stories.

Whether it is a bad date, horrible relationship or the secret behind disasters like Tanacon, these long-format YouTube series are here to slay our lives. If you have no idea what I am talking about, get your bowl of popcorn and start bingeing any of the Shane Dawson series.
