Cakes can be made in the microwave. In a mug. That’s right, a mug. While it won’t be a smart move to bake a wedding cake in a mug, it’s perfect for the time-crunched, oven deprived lifestyle we all know at times. All you need is your favorite mug, a functioning microwave and these delicious recipes.

Banana Mug Cake

What you’ll need:

  • 1 Tbs of butter melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 Tbs of milk
  • 1 banana evenly mashed
  • 3 Tbs of all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbs of brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp of baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp of vanilla
  • Salt

If you would like, you can prepare a glaze for the added taste. You will need

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbs butter
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla

How to:

  1. In bowl, mix your dry ingredients i.e. flour, sugar and baking powder and salt.
  2. Stir in your butter, milk, banana, egg and vanilla and whisk until smoothly combined.
  3. Transfer to mug as cleanly as possible.
  4. Microwave for 3 minutes, checking halfway through. Stick a toothpick in and see if it comes out clean.
  5. Let sit to cool.

How to: Glaze

  • Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute, checking in between as it’s likely to bubble.
  • Set to cool and drizzle over the cake.

Honey Mug Cake

What you’ll need:

  • 4 tbsp of flour
  • 1/2 tbsp of baking powder
  • 1 medium egg
  • 2 tbsp of butter
  • 2 tbsp of honey
  • 3 tbsp of sugar
  • ½ tsp of vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt

Optional frosting ingredients

  • 2 tbsp of butter, softened
  • 4 tbsp of icing sugar
  • Honey(optional)

How to:

  1. Melt the butter in the microwave for 10-20 seconds in the mug.
  2. Proceed to add the honey, egg and vanilla and mix until fully combined.
  3. Add the dry ingredients i.e. sugar, flour and salt and combine.
  4. Microwave for 1 minute 15 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds and set to cool.

Optional Frosting

  1. Add the butter and icing sugar to another mug and add the butter. Use a fork to beat the mixture until fluffy for around 1-2 minutes.
  2. Decorate the cake.

Pumpkin Mug Cake

What you’ll need:

  • 6 tbsp of vanilla cake mix
  • 2 tbsp of canned pumpkin puree
  • 1 tbsp of milk
  • 1 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice

How to:

  1. In a large mug, whisk the cake mix, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, milk, and vegetable oil together until a smooth texture is achieved.
  2. Microwave for 1-minute ad 30 seconds. Set to cool and enjoy the cake with some of your favorite toppings.

Chocolate Mug Cake

What you’ll need:

  • 1/4 cup of flour
  • 3 tbsp of milk
  • 2 tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 of sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp of canola oil
  • 1 tbsp of water

How To:

  1. In a mug, mix everything until creamy.
  2. Microwave for 1 minute and 45 seconds.
