Cakes can be made in the microwave. In a mug. That’s right, a mug. While it won’t be a smart move to bake a wedding cake in a mug, it’s perfect for the time-crunched, oven deprived lifestyle we all know at times. All you need is your favorite mug, a functioning microwave and these delicious recipes.
Banana Mug Cake
What you’ll need:
- 1 Tbs of butter melted
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 Tbs of milk
- 1 banana evenly mashed
- 3 Tbs of all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbs of brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp of baking powder
- 1/4 tsp of vanilla
- Salt
If you would like, you can prepare a glaze for the added taste. You will need
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 Tbs butter
- 1/4 cup of milk
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
How to:
- In bowl, mix your dry ingredients i.e. flour, sugar and baking powder and salt.
- Stir in your butter, milk, banana, egg and vanilla and whisk until smoothly combined.
- Transfer to mug as cleanly as possible.
- Microwave for 3 minutes, checking halfway through. Stick a toothpick in and see if it comes out clean.
- Let sit to cool.
How to: Glaze
- Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute, checking in between as it’s likely to bubble.
- Set to cool and drizzle over the cake.
Honey Mug Cake
What you’ll need:
- 4 tbsp of flour
- 1/2 tbsp of baking powder
- 1 medium egg
- 2 tbsp of butter
- 2 tbsp of honey
- 3 tbsp of sugar
- ½ tsp of vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
Optional frosting ingredients
- 2 tbsp of butter, softened
- 4 tbsp of icing sugar
- Honey(optional)
How to:
- Melt the butter in the microwave for 10-20 seconds in the mug.
- Proceed to add the honey, egg and vanilla and mix until fully combined.
- Add the dry ingredients i.e. sugar, flour and salt and combine.
- Microwave for 1 minute 15 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds and set to cool.
Optional Frosting
- Add the butter and icing sugar to another mug and add the butter. Use a fork to beat the mixture until fluffy for around 1-2 minutes.
- Decorate the cake.
Pumpkin Mug Cake
What you’ll need:
- 6 tbsp of vanilla cake mix
- 2 tbsp of canned pumpkin puree
- 1 tbsp of milk
- 1 tbsp of vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
How to:
- In a large mug, whisk the cake mix, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, milk, and vegetable oil together until a smooth texture is achieved.
- Microwave for 1-minute ad 30 seconds. Set to cool and enjoy the cake with some of your favorite toppings.
Chocolate Mug Cake
What you’ll need:
- 1/4 cup of flour
- 3 tbsp of milk
- 2 tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 of sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/8 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp of canola oil
- 1 tbsp of water
How To:
- In a mug, mix everything until creamy.
- Microwave for 1 minute and 45 seconds.
