The Unusual Attractions of Qatar

If there was a checklist of what makes a perfect travel destination, Qatar will definitely fulfill all the requirements. We have already discussed the essentials, the wide variety of food options and the captivating architecture of Qatar in the previous article. However, any traveler will tell you that it is not the places but the people that truly give us the best travel stories. And in this front, Doha does not disappoint.

The first time I realised this was as soon as I stepped out at the Hammad International Airport. The people of Qatar and the sheer variety of experiences that this place has to offer makes it the go-to destination for every travel-lover.  This article focuses on these aspects of travel and here is why I feel that Qatar is the place to be.

The Experiences

Qatar is not just for the foodies and explorers, but also fills the soul of people who seek adventure. From barbequing by the beach at Waqra to sand duning at Sealine, Mesaieed; the adventure activities that this country offers is sumptuous.  Adventure lovers will have a tough time getting over the experiences that Qatar has to offer. For the not so adventurous souls, like myself, the late-night rides on the Red Carpet Road and the soothing interiors of the Qatar National Library will fill your heart and soul. PS – The Turkish ice cream stalls at Souq Waqif is a go-to for creating some happy memories with your friends/family.

The People

One of the most important parts of a travel experience has to be meeting new people. This is perhaps the second best thing about Qatar. (The first has to be the nightlife and the lights that make the Doha skyline shine like a star.) The people of Qatar that I came across were the most helpful and kind souls I have seen. The diverse population will make you feel at home and the kindness of the people is evident from their helpful nature.

The Night Lights

Having spoken about everything from the food to the people and the sports to the places, one might think that I have it all covered. But the one thing that Qatar’s travel guide needs to include the lights or the night skyline. Doha’s night skyline will make you believe that every day is a festival of lights. The instantly changing colors of the buildings at The Pearl, the lighting of the red-carpet road, and the city’s lights dancing to the sound of music, all make the night lights the best thing about Qatar. You may enjoy a light show every now and then, but Doha is a city that transforms into a light show by the nights, making the late night rides through the city the most relaxing and exhilarating experience.

All in all, Qatar is everything that I hoped for from my first international trip and much more. There is something for everything here and it is this feeling that keeps bringing me back.
