As a frequent traveller, I am constantly debating whether to book in a boutique hotel or a chain hotel. Both have got it’s charms. Constantly conversing to people around about my travels, I often find people being skeptical to try a boutique hotel over a chain hotel. I love a good boutique hotel on my trips and I will let you in on the reasons very soon.

  1. Boutique Hotels are mostly family-owned businesses. There will always be so much character and the feeling of home no matter how small or big it is. More often than not, the entire staff feels like a family and they are overly happy to receive a guest in their space, and they go out of the way to make sure guests are in comfort.

  2. If you are searching for authenticity and really getting to learn about the culture and lifestyle, boutique hotels are the way to go. They source so many things from the neighborhood – from furniture to food. It almost feels like you are living in the home of a local.

  3. If you are a business traveler, your best bet is a chain hotel because there’s a system in place. However, if you are going for leisure, and want to see something off-the-beaten track, a boutique hotel would be the way to go.

  4. Boutique hotels might not offer every facility as a big chain hotel does. However, it would still offer basic amenities that you would need like wifi, a lobby area, a meeting space, a cafe.

  5. If you are looking to stay in an excellent hotel with a lower budget, then boutique hotels are a great option. They normally tend to be 10 – 20 % lesser than the chain hotels.

  6. The staff will be able to give you a more personalized experience in a boutique hotel as the number of people they tend to accommodate is much lesser than a chain hotel.

As a millennial and someone who is constantly traveling to learn the culture, and learn from the locals, I have stayed in a couple of boutique hotels around the world. Some of them I would recommend you to try from my personal travels are the Tian Jing Boutique Hotel in China Town in Kuala Lumpur, and Shola Crown Munnar in India – both hidden gems in their own area. Have you stayed at any boutique hotel and have the same opinion like I do? Let us in on your beautiful experiences as well.
