When a migraine strikes, it can cause extreme pain, vomiting and sometimes sensitivity to light and sound, can quickly ruin your day.

The good news is that you don’t have to wait until it goes, there are several simple tricks to relieve the pain, without a visit to the doctor or drugstore. The first thing that may come to one’s mind is to have a head massage and yes it proves to be an effective remedy to sooth the intensity of the pain. A proper head massage might not be an option for people living alone or it might just be too expensive as well.

Here are a few ways to help with a migraine:

Hot or cold therapy

Place a heating pad on your neck or the back of your head. Hold a warm cloth to the area that hurts. A warm shower might also do the trick. Or place a cold pack on your forehead. Ice cubes wrapped in a towel, a bag of frozen peas, or even a cold shower may lessen the pain. Keep the compress on your head for 15 minutes, then take a break for 15 minutes.

Grape juice

Grapes are an excellent pain reliever. Blend fresh ripe grapes with a bit of water for the perfect go-to remedy when the pain strikes.

Add a Little Pressure

When you begin to feel the first tinges of a migraine, place a bit of pressure on your head. By pressing with your fingers on certain migraine-specific spots, you can force your brain to relax and rest, restarting it from a pain-free place.

Herbal Tea

Create a homemade herbal tea by mixing fresh ginger, peppermint leaves and cayenne pepper together and boiling them in hot water for 15 minutes. Ingesting these herbs offers the fastest relief of both pain and nausea that often comes with a migraine.

Here are some quick advices to get rid of the migraine’s pain:

  • Treat it early
  • Consider what caused it
  • Find a quiet, dark place to relax

  • Eat nuts, drink caffeine, this can help
  • Stop smoking
