Living in Qatar is all about dealing with extreme summers but as winter approaches weather change tends to make our life difficult. Talking about our summer frizz  – prone hair with all that humidity, going even more haywire as the atmosphere gets colder & drier. Ladies, we feel you. Winter brings in all those amazing outfit ideas to try along with flying hair, dry scalp and styling problems.  So here are some tips on how to get them “dry hair problems” out of your way this winter.

Saying bye – bye to flakes:

Winter gets your scalp drier, itchier and flakier than ever due to lack of moisture in air. Most people fail to realize that flaky scalp leads to more issues like itchiness, hair fall, face & back acne etc. So how do we get rid of it the right way?

All one needs is:

  • Few tablespoons of olive oil / coconut oil
  • A teaspoon of lemon juice.
  • Heat up the oil
  • Mix with the lemon juice
  • Massage it into your hair
  • Leave for 20- 30 minutes.
  • Rinse with Shampoo then conditioner and Voilà! Control static hair:
  • A DIY conditioning mask for frizz control once a week will help you tame that mane.
  • Combing your wet hair with a plastic comb with wide teeth and dry hair with a metal comb will help reduce the static effect.
  • Make sure to wash your hair with lukewarm water, not hot water to avoid striping it off natural oils & nourishments. End the shower with a cold rinse to lock in the moisture.
  • Using a hair spray or leave in conditioner to weigh down your hair after heat styling

Food for hair:

Your hair needs to be nourished from the inside to look healthy on the outside. Increasing the amount of water and fibers in your diet will do a splendid job. Also getting a regular treatment done or DIY deep conditioning treatments will help to get that dullness out of your hair leaving it smooth and glossy.

Here are few easy DIY deep conditioning hair masks to try:

Banana hair mask:

  • 1-2 overripe bananas, 1 tsp. coconut oil and olive oil each, 1 tbsp. honey and ¼ cup yogurt.
  • Wisk the bananas, add the oils, yogurt and honey into a smooth puree. Apply to your hair from roots to tip and leave in for 10 – 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Mayo hair mask:

  • Massage mayo thoroughly all over your hair except the scalp (to avoid oily scalp) and cover with a shower cap or hot towel for 15 – 20 min. Rinse with water and shampoo.

Egg Conditioning:

  • 1 egg yolk, 2 tsp. olive oil and 2 tsp. mayonnaise.
  • Blend all the three ingredients and apply to hair for 30 min. and wash it off with shampoo.

Hair Wash tips:

Shampooing your hair less means more moisture and that’s exactly what we are looking for in winter. On the other hand, washing your hair less will make it feel oily. This is where the dry shampoo kicks in but makes sure to comb it in from the root of your hair to about an inch down only to avoid dryness.

So there it is girls. Now let’s get out there and make every day a good hair day.
