The Cultural Village Foundation – Katara is gearing up for the launch of the fourth edition of Mahaseel Festival on Monday at Katara’s Southern Area.
Since its inaugural edition in 2016, Mahaseel (an Arabic word which translates to ‘Harvest’) has seen huge success having been patronised by the general public for selling fresh produce grown by local farmers at cheap prices.
The festival is being organised by Katara every year as its way of supporting the Qatari agricultural sector and national livestock and food products, as well as offering business opportunities to owners of Qatari farms.
As in the previous editions, a number of events and activities will be organised on the sidelines of the festival. They will include informative lectures and entertaining activities, among others.
Workshops, exhibitions, competitions and other interactive activities were organised in the past to raise awareness among children and the general public on the different locally grown vegetables and fruits, the importance of fostering a culture of cultivating crops and the significant role the agricultural sector plays in the country’s economy.
The previous edition of the festival featured 22 stalls representing local farms and nurseries offering a wide variety of vegetables and fruits as well as flowering and ornamental plants.
In addition, a number of companies selling juices, dairy and meat products as well as stalls where local cuisine were sold were present making the festival a one-stop shop.
Mahaseel Festival provides an excellent platform for local farms to directly market their produce as well as introduce people to the varieties of fruits and vegetables grown in Qatar which they can purchase at affordable prices.
This year, the festival will run from December 23 to 28 and will be open from 9am to 9pm. After the conclusion of the festival, the Mahaseel souq will remain open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until March 31 next year.
