The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the completion of the roads and infrastructure works for the 31,000-person capacity Integrated Workers Complex (IWAC) in West Umm Slal.

Ashghal also announced opening of the roads in the area to traffic. While announcing the opening, engineer Hamad al-Badr, project engineer at Ashghal’s Roads Projects department, described it as part of the Authority’s efforts to serve the workers accommodation facilities and to ensure a safe, healthy living environment in their communities.

“A road network has been constructed at the West of Umm Slal, around the workers accommodation in order to facilitate traffic access to these facilities and to provide it with a drainage network,” he said. “Ashghal accelerated the work in conjunction with the allocation of one of the accommodation facilities to serve as a temporary quarantine facility for around 4,000 workers. “Ashghal also expedited the commissioning of the drainage network in order to discharge the sewage flows from this area to the existing plant in Doha North, which is about 10km from the project area,” he said.

Once completed, the station will cater for the current and future needs of the particular area. Construction works for the station are scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2020. It’s worth noting that the project’s completed works involve the construction of 11km of roads, a 12-km sewerage network, a 5.9km electricity network, a 4.3km surface water drainage network and a 4km Treated Sewage Effluent network.

The scope of works included providing street lighting with the installation of 324 lighting poles, road markings and road signage. In addition, two bus parking areas will be upgraded for labour transportation with a total capacity of 550 buses.
