Superstitious folk, the day you’ve been fearing has finally arrived. Which means there’s no better day to scare the bejeezus out of yourself with a horror movie.
However, Fear Not. We like to do things differently over here. Instead of hiding one eye behind your blanket & the other focused on the screen, why don’t you pick out a feel good film that is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
Freaky Friday
Raise your hands if you’ve ever said that you don’t want to turn out to be like your mother, when you were 15. Single mother Tess Coleman and her teenage daughter Anna couldn’t be more different, driving each other insane. After receiving cursed fortunes at a Chinese restaurant, the two wake up the next day to discover that they have somehow switched bodies. Unable to switch back, they are forced to masquerade as one another until a solution can be found.
The Parent Trap
Identical twins, who are separated at birth, discover each other years later at summer camp, realising they were raised by each other’s mother and father, who split earlier on. They then decide to swap identities after camp to get to know the other parent.
School of Rock
Dewey is an out-of-work musician who finds out about a substitute teaching job through his roommate and fakes his way into taking the position. When the class shows an interest in classical music, Dewey introduces them to rock & roll and a new love for music is born. When a Battle of the Bands presents an opportunity for the class to show off their stuff, the kids decide they can live up to the challenge to prove they are the “School of Rock”.
Lady Bird
A moving, relatable coming-of-age film, focused on a mother-daughter relationship and a Catholic schoolgirl navigating her way through the terrifying thing that is adolescence.
