Over 11,000 participants flocked to the Doha Exhibition & Convention Centre to source products and enhance their professional skills at The Big 5 Qatar launch event. The quality of the event, along with the features on offer, has been the main point of praise by attendees.
The Big 5 Qatar launch edition was opened by His Excellency Mr Mohammed bin Abdullah Rumaihi, Minister of Municipality. The event enjoyed support by Ashghal (Official Sponsor), Manateq (Economic Partner), Qatar Development Bank (Development Partner) and Qatar Tourism Authority (Official Support).
From 24-26 September 2018, The Big 5 Qatar hosted more than 240 exhibitors from 21 countries, live product demonstrations, and 40+ free-to-attend educational workshops.
Working with Manateq on Economic Zone 1 in Qatar, Procurement Engineer (MEP) at InfraRoad Trading & Contracting LLC, Saqib Imtiaz commented on his visit:
“This is my first Big 5 event and it is a very good event. As well as seeing such a huge variety here, I am really impressed by the amount of new products on show. There is plenty that we haven’t seen before, brought over by countries from all around the world.”
International Pavilions at the event included Italy, Turkey, Kuwait, India, China, and Iran, to name but a few. Walid Agal, Marketing Director for Industrial Equipment & Services Co. LLC, an exhibiting company, (IESCO) said:
“We are excited to be with The Big 5 Qatar this year. We have been to all the Big 5 exhibitions for example in Kenya and India, and I’m happy to see it is in Qatar now. The quality of companies who are exhibiting is impressive and we look forward to being a part of the growth in Qatar together.”
The Big 5 Qatar, supported by Qatar Tourism Authority, also featured an International Media Tour to further promote the unique opportunity that Qatar has to offer to international business visitors.
Raffaella Capritti, Editorial Director at InfoBuild was part of a group of journalists who came from Italy, Turkey, Russia and Germany. The group was given the opportunity to visit Al Rayyan Stadium and Qatar Rail’s latest mock up station. She shared her impression of Qatar:
“There is great growth in the country, with many construction sites and a great vision for the future. I look forward to spreading the outlook back home.”
Qatar Vision 2030 and preparations for the FIFA 2022 World Cup have boosted the local construction industry. As a result, many professionals came to The Big 5 Qatar to enhance their skills via the 40+ free CPD (continuing professional development) certified workshops on offer.
Speaker Eng. Jenefer Alam, Construction & Quality Efficiency Manager at Ashghal describes the energy throughout her session:
“We spoke about enhanced project delivery at The Big 5 Qatar and there was so much feedback with great questions, the audience was so engaged. My experience has been great – looking forward to next year’s Big 5 Qatar.”
Setting a standard for the next edition, The Big 5 Qatar 2018 also welcomed a team of experts from Accessible Qatar (AQ), a community initiative from Sasol. Jack Sabah, General Manager of Public Relations at Sasol remarked:
“On the final day of The Big 5 Qatar we presented certifications to the top most accessible stands at the event. Certificates were awarded to Qalex, Smeet, Zebrano, and Chip International, who each met the top most accessibility standards to ensure the inclusion of people with disabilities as full members of the society.”
He added: “We are happy that The Big 5 Qatar can be a part of Accessible Qatar, and that the event will continue to support us in promoting Qatar as an accessible destination.”
