Over a 100 km from the main city, Zekreet’s sandy beach continues to be a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. The crystal clear water and calm waves is a pleasant sight to see during sunset.
It takes about an hour to reach the beach with the ride being smooth and adventurous.
On Saturday, the organizers and volunteers gave up their weekend to clean up the coast. One of the aims of this community event was to raise awareness about how marine wildlife being under threat, ‘with hundreds of species accidentally eating or becoming entangled in litter’.
The weather on the morning of the clean-up was lovely with light breeze. The beach was immediately filled with volunteers and their families, dogs and kids picking up trash for a safe and clean future. The festive atmosphere helped energize the volunteers for the task ahead. A lot of people who joined in came to relax their mind by participating. Many got the opportunity to visit Zekreet beach for the first time which is a beautiful place to be in the winter.
The day began with a meet-up by the beach at 10 AM for a briefing with the organizers. Miss Yvonne Basera briefed the volunteers on various people-centered campaigns, along with collaborative approaches to marine conservation, and protection.
After the briefing, people were divided into groups and given gloves, litter pickers and large litter bags.
AllandAbout was joined by Just Us and Otto team to offer their support in the community event as well.
The community event was also supported by active campaigners such as ‘Pick Plastic Not Shells‘. They advise the public to connect more with nature and make it a better place to live.
The volunteers were also provided with amenities such as wet wipes, sanitizers and refreshments.
A volunteer commented “It’s great that we take a day off to clean the beach but we should remember that it’s our duty to make the environment a cleaner place to live and we should do it anyway.”
The message of the campaign was to help encourage people to take action to protect their surroundings by only lending a hand to their local community.
Being more ecologically conscious of the products we consume, insisting that products meet the highest environmental and industry standards, and disposing of our litter properly, are all ways of exercising individual responsibility. This, in turn, will reap collective benefits.
After the campaign, the families and kids took joy in swimming at the beach and enjoying the sun. Some made a picnic out of the fun event.

AllandAbout thanks everyone who made it to the community event and made the sunny day shine brighter. It promises to hold more events to help saving the nature and involve the community as well.
