To mark the Holy month of Ramadan, the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) has kicked off its annual Ramadan programme, which offers community members a chance to take part in art workshops and events, in addition to family activities from 8-18 May.

 

Art Workshops

Community members can join a Calligraphy course in Nasta’liq starting from 13 May, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

For members looking for evening classes after Iftar, a three-day Clay Art workshop for adults will be held from 12-14 May, from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. On 13 – 14 May, another workshop will also be delivered by Qatari photographer Abdulla Al Mannai. This workshop will focus on the importance of light in portrait and landscape photography.

“The Holy Quran in Many Languages exhibition at MIA’s Library

MIA’s Library is pleased to host a new exhibition dedicated to the Holy Quran, titled “The Holy Quran in Many Languages”. The exhibition features various displays of historic and contemporary copies of Surat al-Baqarah, Verse 183-187 from the Quran in different languages. The exhibition concludes on 31 July 2019.

 

Artist events

MIA is also working with the International Artists of Doha (IAD) group, a non-profit group created for artists residing in Doha, where one artist will attend each evening and create pieces of art in the atrium under the theme “Light in Ramadan.” Visitors are invited to come and observe the process and engage with the artist to find out about their inspiration and style.

 

Family activities

In addition, MIA is also organising evenings of engaging drop-in family activities, including a Ramadan Treasure Trail, Card and Bookmark making, Cut Out Ka’ba, Prayer mat paper weaving and lantern making. All activities are available from 8:30 pm – 10:30 pm on 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 May.

 

Guided tours

Evening Ramadan-themed tours will be available for MIA’s visitors every Monday and Thursday at 9:30pm. General tours of the Permanent galleries will be offered on Saturdays and Tuesdays at the same time.
