Education Above All (EAA) Foundation through its programme Al Fakhoura yesterday launched ‘Dynamic Futures Project in Qatar’ for scholarships for residents which is first-of-its-kind in the country.

The project, which has already been launched for the current academic year, is in partnership with and support of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

It focuses on empowering 17 to 25 years old students who have spent most of their life in Qatar to complete their higher education in Qatar’s partner educational institutions like Qatar University, the College of the North Atlantic, Stenden University and University of Calgary.

The partner-educational institutions have identified their own requirements for accepting students who are benefiting from the scholarship of the program.

“This joint project reflects the importance of ‘Al Waqf’ (endowment) in Islamic civilization and its role in the development of societies during different periods of time pointing to the development of the waqf sector in the country and its social and developmental role,” said Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, Director General of the General Administration of Awqaf at the Ministry of Awqaf.

He also said in a joint press conference with EAA Foundation and representatives of the partner educational institutions that the agreement signed with the EAA Foundation comes with the support of the Fund for Scientific and Cultural Development.

“The agreement seeks to develop two important scientific sectors, namely basic education and higher education.” He also announced the opening of a basic education school, as well as 120 scholarships for higher education.

Fahd Al Sulaiti, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EAA said this project is a translation of the Foundation’s efforts to invest in youth to direct their energies towards effective participation in community building.

Regarding the conditions for receiving scholarships, he said the applicant should have valid residence in the country, completed at least 70 percent of his study in Qatar and has admission at the university and has no other scholarship.

Farooq Burney, Executive Director of Al Fakhoora programme stressed the keenness of the Foundation to include also other student services which will contribute to the development of the responsibility of the students and the development of their leadership skills and economic empowerment.
