Qatar Museums (QM) successfully held its annual Teacher’s Council meeting for teachers that aimed to inform them about QM’s upcoming educational programmes and exhibitions for 2019. Held at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), the event gathered a large number of school representatives and teachers who were introduced to QM’s vision of creating a strong museum education sector in the country.
Through a series of presentations, QM representatives from National Museum of Qatar, MIA, 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Children’s Museum Project, Cultural Heritage Division, Department of Education, Exhibitions Department, and Events Department introduced educational resources and initiatives that can be integrated into the school curriculums currently being taught across Qatar’s schools. Following the session, NMoQ museum guides gave participants an exclusive tour of the National Museum of Qatar galleries.
It was also a great opportunity for teachers to find out about new exhibitions, school programs, teacher training, professional development programs, and learning resources available to them for the 2019-2020 academic year. At the event, the teachers were able to network with their colleagues, museum educators and other professionals and to form long-lasting partnership with QM museums and cultural heritage professionals.
The annual Teachers Council is an initiative set up by QM under the patronage of the Chairperson Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Another such initiative is the Executive Teacher’s Council – an interactive platform where teachers work closely with QM to develop and offer feedback on the institution’s learning resources.
This year, the country’s museum education offerings are further enriched, now that the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) was opened in March, along with MIA, Mathaf, the Fire Station and Al Zubarah, which are already home to several community workshops and learning initiatives.
