Following on from the hugely successful and electric first outdoor Sound Journey back in April, Evolve is back with Doha’s only public outdoor Sound Journey at the Four Seasons Doha Hotel. The calming and relaxing sound therapy with a combination of rare instruments will be delivered in a beautiful setting of the Four Seasons Doha Hotel’s gardens. Some of the instruments used are Himalayan and crystal singing bowls, flutes, percussion instruments, gongs, didgeridoos and more. The combinations of instruments create rich harmonics and the layering of tones, rhythms and frequencies create a magical and deeply relaxing soundscape that often have a profound effect on the listener.
The instruments that are used, such as singing bowls and tuning forks, have very specific effects on the physical body – the brain, the endocrine system and the nervous system in particular- that can be talked about and understood, however everyone is individual and has their own unique vibration and energy. We are changing every moment, so we will always respond to sounds, music and vibration in our own unique way at any given time. Opening the workshop with a sound journey paves the way for a real dialogue and a practical place from which to deepen one’s understanding of the effects and benefits of healing through music and frequency.
Sound has been utilized in various cultures for thousands of years as a tool for healing. Whether through the use of mantras as with the Hindis, the Icarus (medicine melodies) of various Indigenous peoples from Central and South America, or Pythagoras use of interval and frequency, these various techniques all have the same intention: to move us from a place of imbalance to a place of balance.
Sound helps to facilitate shifts in our brainwave state by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our fluctuating brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwave can attune to. By using rhythm and frequency, we can entrain our brainwaves and it then becomes possible to down-shift our normal waking consciousness to relaxed consciousness and even reach meditative state and sleep where internal healing can occur.
Using sound as therapy can provide results for a variety of issues including:
- Sleep disorders
- Stress management
- Migraines and chronic headaches
A sound therapy treatment is both a passive and participatory experience. The passive aspect is that you become more relaxed by lying down and slowing your breath. By doing this, you prepare yourself to become the receiver of sound. It’s in this place of stillness that you participate by becoming more open and aware of each sound that comes in. Sound helps create the pathway to this place of stillness the same as a mantra helps you to arrive at the still point of meditation.
Our drummers, Patrick and Daniel, will take you on a sound journey with wonderful instruments from around the world: African Drums, Turkish cymbals, Latin-American seeds and a majestic Hang drum. Once your brainwaves have slowed down, you will be guided on a healing meditation that will leave you feeling calm, positive and refreshed. This is your chance to unwind in the beautiful gardens of Four Seasons Hotel Doha.
