Summer holidays are heading towards its end. Though life has slowly started back to its old routine, the residents of Qatar are not going to forget the excitement and entertainment they experienced during the holidays this summer.
The recently concluded Sumer in Qatar (SiQ) campaign, spearheaded by Qatar National Tourism Council, proved to be the biggest and most successful programme to attract both residents and visitors in the country.
There were multiple choices for the families and kids during the three-month-long campaign as they saw comedy shows, music events, stage plays, cultural festivals, virtual reality gaming events and special movie screenings for the children.
One of the attractions was the special screening of four movies for the children in different cinema halls and the shopping malls. The movies that were screened were namely; The Angry Birds Movie 2, Spiderman – Far From Home, Toy Story 4, and Dawn of the Space Age.
The Angry Birds – Movie 2 was screened at almost all major cinema halls of the country. The story of the movies goes as Red, Chuck, Bomb and the rest of their feathered friends are surprised when a green pig suggests that they put aside their differences and unite to fight a common threat. Aggressive birds from an island covered in ice are planning to use an elaborate weapon to destroy the fowl and swine way of life. After picking their best and brightest, the birds and pigs come up with a scheme to infiltrate the island, deactivate the device and return to their respective paradises intact.
Spiderman – Far From Home that too ran at all cinemas this summer was an attraction both for kids and adults alike. The superhero film is the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). The film is directed by Jon Watts, written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, J. B. Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr, Marisa Tomei, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
In Far From Home, Parker is recruited by Nick Fury and Mysterio to face the Elementals while he is on a school trip to Europe.
Spider-Man: Far From Home premiered in Hollywood on June 26 and was theatrically released in the United States on July 2, in 3D and IMAX. The film was positively reviewed for its humour, visual effects, and performances (particularly those of Holland and Gyllenhaal). It has grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide, making it the first Spider-Man film to pass the billion-dollar mark, the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2019, the 26th-highest-grossing film of all time, as well as becoming Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing film.
Toy Story 4 was also screened at all cinema halls but its special screening was witnessed at Doha Festival City where a Toy Story activation station invited and entertained the children and families alike.
Toy Story 4 is an American computer-animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. It was the fourth installment in the Toy Story series, and the sequel to 2010’s Toy Story 3. It was directed by Josh Cooley from a screenplay by Andrew Stanton and Stephany Folsom; the three also conceived the story alongside John Lasseter, Rashida Jones, Will McCormack, Valerie LaPointe, and Martin Hynes.
The film stars the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Madeleine McGraw, Christina Hendricks, Keanu Reeves, Ally Maki, Jay Hernandez, Lori Alan, and Joan Cusack.
The film directly follows Toy Story 3, as Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and their other toy friends have found new appreciation living with Bonnie. They are joined by Forky, a spork that has been made into a toy, and embark on a road trip adventure. The film is dedicated to actor Don Rickles and animator Adam Burke, who died on April 6, 2017 and October 8, 2018, respectively.
The film has grossed $1 billion worldwide, becoming the sixth highest-grossing film of 2019 as well as the 42nd highest-grossing film of all time and the ninth highest grossing animated film of all time. Dawn of the Space Age had special screening at Al Thuraya Planetarium of Katara Cultural Village. The audience actually relived the excitement of the early days of space exploration.
From the launch of the first artificial satellite Sputnik, to the magnificent lunar landings and privately operated space flights, the movie keeps the audience immersed and overwhelmed with this most accurate historic reconstruction of man’s first steps into space.
Dawn of the Space Age highlights men and women who took part in these death-defying endeavours. The audience witnesses their drive, their passion, and their perseverance to explore.
