The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has set May 9 as the last day for sending entries of short films for students of public and private schools in Qatar, for the “School Stars” competition.

The first edition of the competition, which is organised by the ministry in partnership with Doha Film Institute, under the slogan the “Bright Side”, invites students to participate by creating short films, whether in Arabic or other languages, to express their views and experiences in relation to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The competition aims to provide students with new skills, discovering media talents, as well as taking advantage of their free time, in addition to introducing them to the possibility of producing short films. The ministry explained that the idea of the competition is to produce a short film of no more than one minute, and sending it to Doha Film Institute, where it is evaluated by experts.

Participants will be divided into three categories according to age, the first of which is for students from the 1 to 4th grades, the second for students from the 5th to the 8th, and the third category for the 9th to 12th grades. The ministry noted that students can shoot their films using a mobile phone.

The winning films will also be displayed on the ministry’s electronic platforms and Doha Film Institute, in addition to Qatar TV Education 1 and Education 2 channels. The ministry will grant promotional cash prizes to winners in every age category.
