Non-alcoholic Kombucha Sangria 3 Ways
Summertime has the best drinks. Kombucha Sangrias are just as satisfying and easy to whip together. You can simply mix kombucha and ice with any fruit and herbs you have in your fridge or follow my recipes below for Strawberry Mint Kombucha Sangria, Ginger Berry Kombucha Sangria, or Garden Herb Kombucha Sangria.
Kombucha Sangria is as easy as replacing the wine and sparkling water from your favorite sangria recipe with plain kombucha. What is Kombucha?
Kombucha (com-BOO-cha) is a sugar-sweetened tea fermented by a community of organisms (SCOBY) into a delicious sour and sweet tonic. More simply, it is fermented sweet tea.
Kombucha is readily available at most grocery stores (if you have trouble finding it, try health food stores). For most Kombucha Sangria recipes, I usually use a simple, plain kombucha base, but feel free to experiment with flavored kombuchas too.
Kombucha Sangria – 3 Ways
- 3-5 mint leaves
- 3 strawberries, sliced
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 2 cup plain kombucha
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ cup water
- 3 slices of ginger
- ¼ cup berries
- 2 cups plain kombucha
- small handful fresh leafy herbs (like sage, thyme, basil, etc.)
- 6 cucumber slices
- 2 slices lime
- 1/2 cup pineapple juice
- 2 cup plain kombucha
- Fill 2 glasses full of ice. Add mint and strawberries into glasses, and muddle with the back of a wooden spoon. Add orange juice, and kombucha. Stir; garnish with mint, strawberries, or orange slices; and serve.
- To make ginger syrup – In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, and ginger. Bring to a simmer, and allow to steep for 5 minutes on a low heat. Turn off heat and allow to cool. Once cooled, remove ginger slices and store in a sealable jar for up to 5 days refrigerated.
- Fill 2 glasses full of ice. Add berries and 4 tbsp ginger syrup. Muddle with the back of a wooden spoon. Add kombucha. Stir; garnish with berries, or ginger syrup; and serve.
- Fill 2 glasses full of ice. Add fresh herbs, cucumber, and lime into glasses, and muddle with the back of a wooden spoon. Add pineapple juice, and kombucha. Stir; garnish with herbs, cucumber, or lime slices; and serve.
Home Chef Tip: Make large batches of each recipe without the ice the day before a party or BBQ. When it’s time to serve, just add ice to a pitcher and let your guests serve themselves. The sangrias only get more flavorful the longer the ingredients are mixed.
