Dance your way to good health!

Dancing is a good way of entertainment, and at the same time it is also a great form of exercise. Reason why, there’s a lot of new dance fitness programs popping out formulated to make one’s body more healthy and fit, in a more fun and engaging manner. One of them is Salsation.

Alejandro Angulo is the creator of Salsation Fitness.

“SALSATION® is a fun and addictive dance fitness program based on functional training with a very strong focus on musicality and lyrical expression.  This pioneering program converts functional training protocols into innovative dance moves, ensuring the body moves in a natural and healthy way. Movements are controlled and very grounded making it safe and gentle on the joints and fun for everyone.”

Salsation is created by Alejandro Angulo, a professional dancer and choreographer from Venezuela, where dancing and music are predominant parts of the daily life and culture Salsation is oftenly mistaken as “Salsa” another form of ballroom dancing but it is actually from the word salsa or hot spicy sauce and sensation. Salsa is a mixture of different dances, rhythms, culture and fitness protocols, while Sensation is the feeling you get from the program’s strong focus on musicality, lyrical expression and feel good effects from the functional training on your body.

Each 60-minute class is lead by a certified Salsation instructor, it starts from the carefully structured warm-up to the cool downs and stretching. The warming up is split up to isolation, and is a total “must” in the dance world because it helps the participants learn to isolate their body, and dynamic moves, is where the participant’s body and mind is being prepared for what comes next for the class.

Rumz Dominic, a Salsation Master Trainer and representative of the program in Qatar, offers the only Salsation Class in the country. You can follow her @rumzdominic

Salsation classes use a variety of songs like Latin, Dancehall, African and Pop Music. After making sure that your body is warmed-up, the instructors will start to guide the participants through each song with fixed choreographies, cueing the body and letting them feel the music and the energy of each song throughout their body. The instructors will give short breaks to explain each song and giving their participants helpful tips on how they can improve on their dancing.

What makes Salsation different from other dance fitness is its program itself. Their methodology and choreography are designed to be safe and friendly to one’s body and joints. The instructors aim not only to make their participants healthy and fit, but to also enjoy and feel the music and to focus on the lyrical expression and musicality. There is also no need to have previous dance experience, just the enthusiasm and the willingness. It is definitely a dance fitness for everyone.
