AllandAbout doing something new!

Ever thought of taking a break from the routine of eat-sleep-work and repeat?

Life can get boring doing the same old thing day in and day out. Everyone needs a break from time-to-time or a hobby to pick that will keep them engaged in their free time. It is also advised to make free time for yourself to do something you like. It could be as easy as going for a walk at your favorite place or picking up a sport you never thought you could conquer.

Here are a few of our recommendations:

  1. Adult coloring: A great activity that consumes energy, time and creates an atmosphere of peace is the activity of adult coloring. Books and canvases with printed pictures can be bought from any stationery shop around the city. This activity is suitable for all ages. Print out a flower picture from the internet and do it with your kids or you could do it all by yourself as well.
  2. Cooking: Who better to give you the best cooking techniques other than your own family. Call up family, relatives, cousins, or friends even to learn techniques and new dishes that you’ve never tried before. There is something about cutting vegetables and meat that calms a person down and the steam from the cooking might be good for your skin too.
  3. Cleaning: Living in the desert during a sandstorm can be a nightmare for most households here. The general weather conditions are also not that great here for opening your windows and doors at all times. Pick one area around the house at a time to clean up. We recommend starting with your bedroom and moving outwards towards the living area and kitchen. It takes time and is a soothing activity especially for people with OCD.
  4. Declutter the Closet: Yes, cleaning out your closet can be the toughest thing for a woman. Take the 6 months break up challenge. Anything you haven’t worn in the last 6 months, get it out of there and pack it up for donation. This way, you get rid of old clothes to make space for new ones. Another reason for shopping!
  5. Be Active: It is time to take advantage of the breezy evenings that the weather gods have bestowed upon us after the long wait of blowing off the summer.. For people with anger and frustration issues, this is the best way to focus your energy on breathing techniques and running styles. Pick a park or a walking area like the Doha Corniche, aspire park or MIA park and go out.
  6. Meet and Greet: It can be tiring to step out of your home again after a long day at work, but meeting new people encourages brain activity and you get to learn about another person’s culture and lifestyle. There might be tips for you to take in from them as well.
  7. Pick up a Hobby: Take up a hobby that doesn’t cost you much. Activities like knitting, learning an instrument, gardening, jewelry making can be learnt online from YouTube videos as well. I took up knitting as a hobby over this summer and found great peace in it.
  8. Explore the City: Go to a place that you’ve never visited before but heard so much of. Drive your car to the beach early morning or late evening and catch the sunrise/sunset. This could be a great way to begin or end your day as well.
  9. Visit a Museum: For the history geeks and enthusiasts, Qatar provides a wide variety of art and culture platforms to explore and learn from. Visit the Museum of Islamic Art, Mathaf, Fire Station and the National Museum of Qatar and have fun with art.
  10. Write to us: The All and About team is always looking for new and fresh content from Qatar’s community talking about day-to-day life hacks and experiences. Send us your honest reviews or reveling experiences and become our contributing content writer.

So, quit lazing around, and do something productive for yourself.

Let us know how you blow off steam and what hobbies you picked up along the way.
